Form IV join the army in Chelsea (in 1642)
Form IV ventured down the M11 to the National Army Museum in Chelsea to attend a talk and handling session on the life of soldiers during the English Civil War. Arriving in good time allowed us to first explore other galleries, finding out what Marengo's (Napoleon's horse) hooves were used for after death and what 'Crimean Tom' was. After a picnic lunch in the beautiful May sunshine, we were given a superb talk by Charlotte, our guide, who brought the hard life of the Civil War soldier to grim life (especially the role of the surgeon). A whistle-stop tour of the 20th Century galleries followed by the inevitable shop visit rounded off the trip (apart from the stop at McDonalds on the way home to celebrate Felix's birthday with the bumps and McFlurries).
