Breakfast & Supper Club

Written by Matthew Retford. Posted in Boarding

To assist working parents, or for parents who occasionally need to 'drop off' or 'pick-up' from School a little earlier or later than usual, we offer a Breakfast and Supper Club whereby children can either by brought to School at 7.30am in time to join the boarders for breakfast or may stay at the end of the School day to complete prep and stay for supper. We also offer casual boarding ranging from 1 night to a 2-week stay.

Medical

Our Nursing Sister, School Doctor and team of fully-qualified first-aiders, are available to ensure that any minor medical problems are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Our Surgery on the ground floor is well-equipped and rooms on both boys and girls floors give giving boarding children the chance to recuperate in familiar surroundings if they need to be off School.

Catering

Our in-house catering team provide well-balanced and child-friendly meals for all children at midday and for boarders at breakfast and supper. Whilst the Nursery children eat lunch in their own familiar surroundings, the rest of the School go to the Dining Hall where they sit in small 'family' groups. A hot meal, vegetarian option and full salad bar are available each day. The School has adopted a 'nut free' regime. We have had several children attending the School with nut allergies and we ask all parents to provide mid-morning snacks for their child(ren) that are nut-free.

Overseas & Service Families

Written by Matthew Retford. Posted in Boarding

Several boaders at Barnardiston Hall, have parents currently serving in HM Forces. They come to us for a variety of reasons, many of them having already moved school several times, following their parents to various new postings, both home and abroad.

The Principal, Colonel Bouler and his wife Gail, have put their own three children through the UK boarding school system whilst serving in the UK and whilst abroad in Hong Kong and Germany. He is therefore, very aware of the special requirements of Service parents who look to a school not only for academic excellence but also for support and continuing care at times when they cannot be with their children.

We aim to be as flexible as possible, particularly for parents who are posted abroad. We offer fully escorted travel to and from airports by members of staff who know the children and we also cover exeat weekends and, where circumstances do not allow children to travel home, during School holidays. In essence, we aim to become a 'home from home' for the children and maintain a close liaison with parents.

The Services also believe that a stable educational background is essential for children and they therefore offer a generous allowance to parents of children aged 8 and above, both day and boarding. At Barnardiston Hall, we make a further allowance to bring fees in line with BSA. This means that parents pay only the minimum Services requirement of 10% of our fee.

Why not look at what the children have to say about boarding and then come and see for yourself. You really have nothing to lose.

"It's great! I had been to six schools before I came here and was always having to make new friends. It's brilliant being in the same place all the time now!" (Simon aged 12)

"My parents don't worry so much about me now because they know I am getting a good education. It's nice not having to keep changing school" (Sarah aged 7)

"I wish I had come here earlier. I have many friends and I get lots of help with my homework in the evening" (Michael aged 9)

Extra Curricular

Written by Matthew Retford. Posted in Boarding

With so many activities, clubs and societies to chose from, there is never any time to be bored at the School. We have regular visits from local organisations such as the Police and Fire Brigade and, at Christmas time each year, we are visited by an elderly gentlemen who, although never arriving by sleigh and reindeer, has managed to drop in by fire engine, helicopter and tractor in the past few years!

cookingBallet, Modern Dance and Tap, Drama Club, Archery, Cookery Club, Scrabble Club, Model-Making and War Hammer Club are some of the clubs on offer as after-school activities along with a wide range of sporting clubs and musical ensemble groups.
